O'Canada... Celebrating all things Canadian!
FREE lesson for littles on Canada Day and new lesson on legendary rockers, RUSH, just $1!
July 1st is Canada Day! A day of celebration of all things Candian!
As my way of celebrating with everyone, I’m offering this FREE lesson for younger spellers on the northern holiday!
And since it is a day to celebrate all things Canadian it seemed the perfect time to drop my latest, School of Rock lesson on Candian rockers, RUSH. Oh yeah… the holy trio to the north.
This lesson came by way of request but is another one of those I probably would have done anyway. Rush has some of the most hardcore fans of any band in history and while I enjoy their hits like Tom Sawyer, Working Man and FreeWill I can’t say I’m a dire hard Rusher.
It was not until I started writing my book, The Michael Chronicles a teen-mystery adventure set in the early 1990s, that I thought more about Rush.
Something happens during the writing process at least for me that brings to mind little pieces of memory from here, there, and everywhere. And when I was in middle school my older brother was in highschool, he had an eclectic group of friends, and it seemed that all the jocks listened to Van Halen (got a lesson on them too), while the Dungeons and Dragons devotees listened to Rush. There’s nothing scientific about my break-down, it was just my impression and when it came up in the writing process the characters leaned into the more DND crowd. There was also something about the Rush music that reminded me of teen-boy angst, rebellion, mysticism and a coming-of-age journey to autonomy… So, maybe that had something to do with it too.
Anyhoo, as luck would have it this lesson drops during summer where my entire school of rock collection is 80 percent off for everyone. So, from now through Labor Day, you can get RUSH for $1.
Until next time… you live in that limelight, the universal dream… and rock on.
